If you should choose to take out a service contract with us, they are also available 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency.
Axis also offers a complete range of Retrofitting and Remodeling programs for both manual and automatic doors. This includes upgrading existing manual swing doors to full automation, retrofitting existing automatic sliding doors with our advanced microprocessor controllers and replacing inefficient or outdated doors with new door systems drawn from a nearly limitless choice of manual or automatic swinging, sliding or folding door systems.
BS EN 16005 is the European standard which gives guidance on safety in use and test methods for Automatic pedestrian door sets. It is the industry guidance document to help companies meet the requirements of the Machinery Directive and form part of the CE Marking process. The document gives practical advice on safety systems and best practice ways for ensuring automatic doors are installed with acceptable levels of safety for users. BS EN 16005 took effect from April 2013 and applies to new installations installed after that date. BS 7036 parts 1-5 continues to apply to existing installations fitted prior to April 2013.

Both BS EN 16005 and BS 7036 parts 1-5 are safety standards which are not legally binding but are seen as best practice in courts considering accidents and injuries from the use of automatic doors. Under the Machinery Directive which is issued by the HSE, automatic doors must be operated safely and be safe for employees and for other users. The doors therefore need to be maintained in accordance with the guidance from the manufacturer. However, the law does not specifically state that the doors need to be serviced but failing to maintain them so they are safe in use would lead to a court penalty if there was an injury.
BS EN 16005 is the European Standard that is the code of practice for safety in use of automatic doors for pedestrian use. All pedestrian automatic doors installed since April 2013 should comply with the BS EN 16005
The standard refers to occupier responsibilities to maintain and inspect their powered pedestrian doors. It highlights that maintenance work needs to be carried out by industry professionals but that they are also responsible for safe door operation. Ref. BS EN 16005 Section 4:2:1
