"Making an Entrance"
Flo-motion

Axis are the innovators and manufacturers of the Flo-Motion® low friction manual sliding door range, first conceived, designed and developed while working with architects BDP and main contractor, Laing O’Rourke on the then new, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, which was officially opened by the Queen, in 2016.

Our Flo-Motion doors have extruded aluminium profiles, a self-supporting goalpost frame and use re-circulating ball guides on a low resistance linear track. An ingenious damper absorbs the energy of the heavy doors on closure. Typical force test results of 10N, astounding for doors of this size and weight, enable all ages and abilities to operate the doors with fingertip control.

The Flo-Motion® range, which now includes single, bi-parting and telescopic doors, enjoyed instant success with David Houghton of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital stating: “The extra-large, easy opening, glazed sliding doors have transformed the way single rooms work to deliver healthcare.”

Over the last 10 years, this ever-evolving range has given architects, main contractors and NHS estate management teams many more compelling reasons to specify Flo-Motion doors:

  • Laing O’Rourke Award for Innovation
  • IHEEM Product Innovation Award
  • BBH Best Internal Building Product Award
  • European Healthcare Design Award

Additionally, our top 10 most specified Flo-Motion doors now have EPD verification, from the Building Research Establishment (BRE), about which Axis MD, Rob Brunero says: “These EPDs demonstrate our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products and they’ll help architects, specifiers and contractors with their increasing responsibilities to deliver buildings more sustainably.”
